The are excellent hiking opportunities right on our doorstep. The hikes below all start from the trailhead located at the corner of Pretoria and Sahara Streets. No need to drive to enjoy Tahoe trails.
More challenging hikes if you have more time. The rewards are worth it! All hikes leave from the corner of Pretoria and Subset roads in Carnelian Bay.
This 4 mile out and back hike climbs to a dramatic rock outcropping with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe.

Out and back hike up to a dramatic lookout with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The climb is on a fire road which makes it gradual and steady. Can also be a great snowshoe route conditions permitting.

Longer hike that hits two popular local trails, Silver Pine and Tahoe Rim Trail. Good views at the top of the Rim Trail. If you go clockwise the climb will be on Carnelian Bay Road which is an easier climb then Silver Pine Trail. Can also be a great snowshoe route conditions permitting.

Great family or dog walk to stretch the legs. Starts and ends at the corner of Pretoria and Sunset, a block from the Carnelian Bay Basecamp.

A slightly longer loop in the forest behind the neighborhood. Goes by a beautiful meadow and old growth cedar trees on the upper end of the loop.
